UTHAITHANI
Uthaithani is named as “The Rising Sun City” because its area consists of ranges of mountains. The people in Uthaithani are the first to see the rising sun in the morning when comparing to people in other regions. Mountains are covered with abundant forests which occupy the area of about 40% of the total area. Viewing Uthaithani as a whole, it can be found that Uthaithani is like the great pan. Its central part is quite deep. This is because the earth’s surface was destroyed by erosion about 50 years ago Recent excavations have indicated that this area used to be inhabited by prehistoric people. Moreover, Uthaithani is still the birthplace of Somdet Phre Pathom Borom Maha Chanok, the father of King Rama I, the first king of the Chakri Dynasty.
Uthaithani province is geographically situated in the lower part of the northern region. It occupies the total area of about 6,730 square kilometers. It is about 222 kilometers north of Bangkok.

The north connects to Nakhonsawan Province

The south connects to Chainat and Suphanburi Province

The east connects to Nakhonsawan and chainat Province

The west connects to Tak and Kanchanaburi Province

People in Uthaithani have related to rivers for a long time. Rivers are also the main source of trading among the inhabitants in the community. The major factor that indicates the relationship between the inhabitants and rivers is the King Rama V. In B.E. 2449, he visited the northern region and stayed at Sakaekrung village. Phrakru Uthai Thamanite (chan), therefore, let the workers build two houseboats for him. Since then, houseboats have become the token of life style of the inhabitants around the Sakaekrung River.
